Welcome to the El Paso Visually Impaired and Blind Experience (VIBE)

El Paso VIBE empowers individuals who are blind and visually impaired, starting at age 18 and over. Lead in serving families, communities, and organizations by building partnerships with state, federal and community organizations. Transform consumer outcomes by providing crucial support groups, independent living skills, assistive technology skills training, mobility & orientation training, and recreational activities. Empower the blind and visually impaired with social inclusion advocacy, and employment opportunities to enable them to become more independent at home and within their communities.

Beginnings

The Visually Impaired and Blind Experience Facility (VIBE) was started as a grassroots organization by a group of individuals who are blind or visually impaired in 2017.  Originally named the Paso Del Norte Coalition. Once a person achieves the experience of going through our core services the VIBE provides; you will achieve a more” independent life.” The VIBE facility is operated mostly by individuals who are blind or visually impaired and is part of a network of over 1,000 centers for the blind and visually impaired throughout the United States. All centers provide several services plus diverse auxiliary services based on individual community needs and funding opportunities

Growth and Development

Following the philosophy of the Independent Living Movement, The VIBE formerly the Paso Del Norte Light House Coalition, is now providing the following six core services: information and referral, orientation and mobility training referrals, independent living skills training, technology training, peer counseling, and advocacy for people who are blind or visually impaired in the El Paso area, in addition VIBE will be providing other services such as job development, and transition support services to meet the needs of people who are blind or visually impaired.

Overview of Programs

The El Paso Visually Impaired and Blind Experience Facility is a client controlled, community-based, facility. All of VIBE’s programs are client driven, focusing on empowering clients to develop the skills to help and advocate for themselves and achieve independent skills and social inclusion.
